Night is not supposed to make you feel happy. It is a book about innocent people being taken to concentration camps and either being burned alive in a chimney when they first arrive, or to be treated like a worthless animal until finally feeling so worthless that you let yourself go. The book on its own is depressing, but the message it gives us is the light. But what is that light? He is telling you this uncensored horror in order to make you take an oath; an oath that makes sure that you will never be cruel to any living being, because if you are, then you are no better than the SS Men and the Nazis.
